Pillow Talk My boyfriend hands me some necessary med. I think I’m quite sick. I’ve got a bad flu that’s warping my thinking, that fucks w/ my head, a sickness that makes me wish, I were dead. An illness can plant such an idea inside you. My boyfriend hands me some necessary med: a plain pink pill; a capsule half yellow, half-red; and one other one, two distinct shades of blue. “ That’s warping my thinking. That fucks with my head,” I tell him. I’m pretty sure that’s what I said. He holds out the glass. I know what to do. My boyfriend hands me some necessary med then patiently sits on the side of my bed as I pop the four pills then drink up. My temp is 102. That’s warping my thinking, that fucks w/ my head. There’s a stain on the pillowcase where I’ve bled ‘ though I’m less sure what’s caused this bad bruise. My boyfriend hands me some necessary med that’s warping my thinking. It fucks w/ my head. Eros Thanatos Brutus Am I sick? And does sobriety mean this body will walk without knots while soaking up life’s crassest joke? Who does that? Again, am I sick? And will I take to a healthy bed where I’ll have the courage to act sick at night and attract neo-kink-isms fostered by some sister spirit that fists and fingers a long-misnamed disease? There is a crime of illness in your mind that I need to know better and more: along the way I promise you beauty, I promise you warmth. But first, desire: Tell me why are you so hard-headed, so hard-hearted, so hard-pressed, so hard that you should have me on repeat: for here are six or seven me’s hiding faces and phalluses in the dark. Mourning the Crown Prince Grief doesn’t linger. It sticks. It makes the hands fumble and the throat gunge up. Time doesn’t heal. Time inserts itself within the pain. The clock is crueler than the calendar. Eventually the hour hand lets up. In the almanacs charting t...

Zinc You liked when I licked you from head to toe but were totally freaked out by ass play. In your mind, a gay guy could safely blow a straight dude without turning that bro gay. I realize these details tend to the crude while set gender roles are become a joke but years ago this was your attitude. God how you laughed whenever I would choke. But now the gag’s on you: You’re middle-aged, your balls have dropped, your main gig’s as a clown. You do balloon tricks for the underaged. Your heart’s cold as brass. You pretend you’ve found how to cope via corrosive humor. Johnny are you queer? I heard a rumor. Drew Pisarra is the author of the homoerotic sonnet cycle   Infinity Standing Up (2019)   published by Capturing Fire Press and the short story collection You're Pretty Gay slated for release by Chaffinch Press in 2021 . Erbium For lack of anything better to do at 4:30 a.m., I decided to break out the Ouija board to see if we might reconnect so that you could tell me where I’d flamed out for from the looks of things, life’s burned to ash. Is it common to cling to a past that did not last? I would ring you up if you were still alive. You’re not. You know that better than I. What we’ve got are A through Z above zero through nine, the words yes and no, plus the phrase good-bye. So… Are you game? Shall we give it a try? Calling Keith, I mean Ken, or was it Carl? I forgot your name whoever you are. Drew Pisarra is currently at work on a series of sonnets inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements, a project funded in part by the Cafe Royal Cultural Foundation. His first book of poems, Infinity Standing Up , was released in 2019 by Capturing Fire Press.
